Interested in Joining WISP as a Mentee?

For over twenty years, the Women In Science Program (WISP) have been striving to build a cohort of women, non-binary gender and male advocates by offering support and a sense of belonging while addressing issues of isolation in the male dominated field of STEM. Additionally, WISP promotes the development of personal and professional identities, facilitates networking and connections and aids in persistence towards earning an undergraduate degree in science from Purdue University.
The WISP Learning Community:
• builds a supportive community of students interested in science, allowing for the formation of natural study groups, and eliminating the isolation first-year female students may face.
• partners each first-year student with an upper-class mentor enrolled in the College of Science.
• holds monthly programs which address topics of interest in science and life skills and allow for networking among students, staff, faculty and invited guests from academia, alumnae, and industry.
• sponsors a tutoring program, together with the College of Engineering, for all students enrolled in first year courses, where Honors science tutors serve as models of persistence.

MSP and WISP in Chicago |

Recently, over 100 MSP and WISP members
traveled Chicago to view the Adler Planetarium and the Museum of Science &
Industry. We had a great time with new and continued friendships while
fostering our passion for science! Afterwards, we stopped at the Bean for
a group photo and quick exploration. This event was made possible due to
the generosity of alumna Ms. Eileen Clark, the College of Science, and the
Residential Academic Initiatives-Learning Community Office.

WISP Social |
|
WISPers dedicated time to study for finals together in Meredith South. Another evening offered a study break to paint ornaments and create festive cards to brighten the holidays for residents of a local nursing home.
Rock those finals, everyone! Have a relaxing and
healthy winter break!

University of Stuttgart - SUPER Summer
Research Program
|
|
 |
SUPER is a summer research program at the University of Stuttgart designed exclusively for undergraduate students. Due to the supervision involved, placements are limited. The length of SUPER varies depending on the research project offered by the hosting institute. In the past, research placements have lasted two to three months. Available research opportunities are published on the program website. Additional research topics may be available on request; please contact the Study Abroad Office for details. This program is open to science and engineering majors who will have completed at least four semesters of university study by the start of the program.
Interested students should discuss their research plans with the Study Abroad Liaison for their home school or department before confirming participation in this program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.
- GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Language Requirement: none

Enhance Your Career Portfolio:
Learn Beyond the Classroom
|

- It is time to update your Learning Beyond the Classroom portfolio. For instance, did you participate in a first year seminar? …a learning community? Were you a T.A.? Did you perform community service? You have done lots of experiential learning, so take some time and submit reports on activities already completed.
- May 2023 graduates: remember that you must have completed the program by the end of January 2023 in order to earn the LBC certificate.
- If you have submitted a report, check and see if you have been asked to supply more information. If you find that you have received “0” points on a report, see the comments section for an explanation. If requested, resubmit your report with the required information so that your LBC points can be updated.
- Do you need financial support to pursue an experiential learning activity? Are you going to a conference? Studying abroad? Doing community service? Apply for an LBC grant. For details on the application process look here.

Every summer, the Program in Animal Behavior and the Center for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior (CISAB), with generous support from the National Science Foundation, invites ten talented undergraduates to Bloomington, Indiana to work with IU faculty on individualized research projects in animal behavior.
